Torrington Emeralds – set of 2 – 0.81tcw
In the world of emeralds, far less well known are emeralds found from a small and largely historic pocket in Torrington, New South Wales. The emerald crystals found in this location tend to present beautiful green colour banding caused by chromium (which confirms emerald and not green beryl). In order to display even green colour in the finished stone, it must be cut with the colour band within the girdle. To say these are rare is an understatement. Torrington emeralds are largely not found on the open market. As expected in emerald, these stones have inclusions – the larger stone contains fewer inclusions and brighter colour than the smaller gem though both are nicely bright and display their brilliant cuts well. A further note should be made that these are not treated, unlike the bulk of available emerald.
