Long rectangular faces in an oval stone are not something you see every day. Laura saw this design by the late Fred Van Sant and fell in love with it. The design gives the stone a very angular, almost art deco look. Australian garnets are not often found in larger sizes. Large rough is commonly chopped up to create smaller brighter stones. Garnet takes such a wonderful polish that in a larger stone it makes a feature of this uncommon reflection pattern and shows off the subtle red flashes.
Upon spotting this gorgeous orange coloured rough in her collection, the artist recalled a gem design by Arya Akhavan called Wanna Fanta. Cue that catchy Fanta jingle from the 00's. Large pavillion faces give the bright flashes which zircon does so well, but not so much bling as to overpower the colour. The gem does have a faint brown modifier in the orange colour.
